The Yoga House Spring Retreat

Last weekend we had our very first Yoga House Retreat in Red Hill. Both the participants and myself ended the weekend blissfully relaxed and energised.  Thank you to all the students, both familiar students and newcomers, who set their trust in me to get together an enjoyable yoga retreat – we did it.  After our postponing of the scheduled retreat in August I was a little nervous whether the new Hummingbird Eco Retreat would be finished in time with their renovations.  It was and the property fully met our expectations and needs for the weekend.

Look at all the happy faces!!!!

Delicious and nutritious food is of course part of any health retreat so we enjoyed many meals prepared from either on-site produce or locally sourced food - very yummy.

Waiting in anticipation for our breakfast eggs collected from the hummingbird chickens.

The property was beautiful, the rooms were gorgeous and imaginative and the food was delicious and plentiful.  Well done to the staff who have put in a big effort to create something truly special.

Just a pretty view from the stables courtyard.

All the rooms have been individually decorated and they all have a different feel and personality.  Each room was subtly decorated according to either a season or element.  When everyone arrived they all wandered around the property looking for the room that suited them best – it was a different way to find your room.

Quiet time for reflection on my meditation cushion in my room.

 Autumn Room

We spent a lot of our time in the Movement Room (yoga studio), where we practiced and fine-tuned our Spring Sequence. On Saturday afternoon I had a Restorative Session planned, which proved very popular.  We don’t often take the time to REALLY slow down so we took that opportunity at the retreat and settled into some slow postures (up to 15mins at a time) – everyone felt well and truly stretched and relaxed.  But don't think it was all just relaxation, we also worked hard.

The beautiful yoga space, it was light, spacious and very comfortable to practice yoga in.

Hard at work with the Hanumasana or popularly called the splits.

Don’t think we only practiced yoga on floor – I just completely forgot to take any photos of everyone in the standing postures – Ups – will try again next time.

So all in all a great and relaxing weekend.  Thank you all for coming along with me and I hope you would like to join me again for another one next year.  I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I'm already planning our next one for 2012, hopefully 27/28/29th April and another one in early September 2012.  Will let you know more.

Namaste
